Junior / Senior Timeline

Calendar for Juniors

September

  • Check high school courses. Will you meet specific college requirements?
  • Check announcements for college representatives’ visits.
  • Get involved in activities; genuine involvement in one or two is better than participating in six or seven.

October

  • Register for PSAT.
  • Read PSAT/NMSQT Student Bulletin.
  • Financial Aid Night: October 18, 7 pm

November

  • Put forth your best academic efforts in these last two years!  
  • Junior College Planning Night at EHHS - November 8, 7:00 pm

December

  • Review your PSAT scores.

January

  • Prepare for semester exams. Colleges look closely at your junior grades.
  • Student meets with counselor to begin future planning and to create a list of colleges to begin your college search.

February

  • Continue to develop a preliminary list of colleges that interest you.

March

  • Register for May and/or June SAT I / SAT II.
  • Ask your counselor about summer enrichment programs. Colleges often ask how you spent your summer vacation.
  • Consider SAT II Tests in courses you are taking this year.
  • Consider taking the ACT Assessment.

April

  • Plan visits to colleges that interest you.
  • Attend College Fair.

May

  • Take SAT I or SAT II.
  • Student Athletes considering participation in Division I or II athletics must register with the National Collegiate Athletic Association at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net.

June

  • Take SAT I or SAT II Tests.
  • Plan summer visits to colleges.
  • If you don’t have a job, try volunteering in a career area that interests you.

 


Calendar for College-Bound Seniors

September

  • Register for the SAT I and/or SAT II tests.
  • Familiarize yourself with the application deadlines - mark your calendars.
  • Sign up for college representatives’ visits to the Guidance Office.
  • Decide which teachers you would like to ask for recommendations.
  • Begin first drafts for required college essays.
  • Student athletes should register with the NCAA Clearinghouse at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net.  

October

  • Begin filling out college applications.
  • See your counselor to discuss letter of recommendation.
  • Watch for scholarship opportunities in Guidance.
  • Financial Aid Night: October 18, 7:00 pm

November

  • “Early Decision” applications are due.

December

  • Complete and submit all college applications.
  • Complete transcript request forms in the Guidance Office.

January

  • Complete the Financial Aid Form and mail or send electronically.

February to June

  • Apply for scholarships.
  • Inform the colleges of your decisions – May 1 is the common reply date.
